Baritone Søren Pedersen’s most notable professional performances include appearances with the San Diego Opera, where he created the role of Aldeano I in Frank’s El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego and sang Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly and Schaunard in La bohème. He returns to SDO in 2026 as Morales in Carmen. Additionally, he has sung with the Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion: New Works project on two occasions: last fall in Snider’s Hildegard, where he workshopped the role of Abbot Cuno, and most recently in Greg Spears’ Sleepers Awake, where he workshopped the role of Court Poet. Pedersen’s professional concert appearances include Handel’s Messiah, Schubert’s Mass in G and Bach’s St. John Passion and St. Matthew Passion.
Pedersen has performed at numerous summer programs singing title roles such as Don Giovanni and Gianni Schicchi. He also sang L’horloge and Le chat in L’enfant et les sortilèges at Chautauqua Opera Conservatory. In addition, Pedersen was a Studio Artist at Wolftrap Opera this summer, where he sang the roles of 1st Officier/2nd Commissaire and covered Marquis de la Force in Dialogues des Carmélites and performed Morales in Carmen. He returns to Wolf Trap next summer as Sciarrone in Tosca and will cover both the title role in Eugene Onegin and Alidoro in Cenerentola.
Notable competition achievements include winning the San Diego District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (2024), third place in the Canadian Opera Company’s Center Stage Ensemble Competition (2025), placing second in the Musical Merit Foundation competition (2024), and placing third twice in the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s Corbett Competition (2024-25).
After graduating with a master’s degree from CCM, Pedersen returned this fall to pursue an Artist Diploma. At CCM, he has performed as Tarquinius (Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia), Dr. Rappaccini (Catán’s La Hija de Rappaccini), and Demetrius (Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream); he will also be performing Le Mari (Poulenc’s Les Mamelles de Tirésias) in the Spring. Pedersen’s voice teacher at CCM is Elliot Madore, and his coaches include Lisa Hasson, Donna Loewy, Andrew Crooks, Marie-France Lefebvre and Kirill Kuzmin. Additional teachers/coaches that Pedersen has worked with include: Renée Fleming, Nathan Gunn, Marlena Malas, Blair Salter, Jonathan Beyer, Jocelyn Dueck and Bénédicte Jourdois. Pedersen earned his undergraduate degree at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego with majors in music and psychology. At PLNU, he performed Marcello in La bohème and sang Elijah in Mendelssohn’s oratorio while studying with Michael Sokol.
