Marya Lowry is a founding member and resident actor with Boston’s Actors’ Shakespeare Project (recent roles: Ranevskaya, The Cherry Orchard; The Fool, King Lear, Brutus, Julius Caesar; Prospero, The Tempest); for Gloucester Stage Co. (Lettice and Lovage, The New Electric Ballroom, True West); Gamm Theatre, RI (Escaped Alone, Hedda Gabler); other Boston area theatres include: American Repertory Theatre, Vineyard Playhouse, Merrimack Rep, SpeakEasy Stage Company, Boston Playwrights’ Theatre and Commonwealth Shakespeare Company. Marya has performed as a narrator with The Boston Pops, Handel & Haydn Society, Cantata Singers and toured Bulgaria with Divi Zheni, performing traditional Bulgarian songs. Original theatre work includes, Luminato Festival, Toronto, Canada and the Roy Hart International Arts Centre, Malérargues, France. Her voice and lamentation workshops span France, Italy, Poland, Greece, Cyprus, the UK and the U.S. A teacher of theatre voice and acting, she is Professor Emerita at Brandeis University. Marya is a mentor to incarcerated women in Massachusetts.
