Bobby Weir is one of the founding members of the legendary Grateful Dead. Since establishing the band in 1965, Weir has become one of rock’s finest and most distinctive rhythm guitarists. The band has been honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2024, Weir will become a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, with the Grateful Dead being members of the forthcoming 47th class.
The Grateful Dead remains one of the highest-grossing touring artists of all time in America, holding a world record of 2,318 total concerts and topping Forbes’ list of top-grossing entertainers. They hold the record for most Billboard Top 40 albums of all time by any act in history further cementing the legendary band as one of the world’s most treasured musical and social phenomena.
Weir has been a member of Dead & Company since its formation in 2015. The band completed 10 tours, performing for more than 4 million fans across 235 shows. Dead & Company wrapped the 2023 Final Tour with three sold-out concerts at Oracle Park in San Francisco, their most successful tour yet, drawing over 840,000 fans. In 2024, Dead & Company announced a residency at Sphere in Las Vegas, where they are currently performing 30 shows. Rolling Stone called the Dead Forever — Live at Sphere residency “the most dazzling visual show in Grateful Dead history.”
Weir is also a member of Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros, formed in 2018 with Don Was and Jay Lane, later adding Jeff Chimenti and The Wolfpack—a six-piece string and brass ensemble. The band has toured extensively throughout the U.S., performing the expansive catalog of the Grateful Dead, Weir’s solo albums, and more.
In the fall of 2022, Weir, along with the Wolf Bros and The Wolfpack, embarked on a four-night sold-out run debuting ensemble performances with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. Weir has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Stanford Symphony Orchestra, thanking them for steering him in the right direction and showcasing his versatility and dedication to musical exploration.
Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring The Wolfpack continue their groundbreaking and much-beloved symphony collaborations. The band returns to the road this November, performing with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra on November 13 at Cincinnati Music Hall, the Chicago Philharmonic on November 17 and 18 at the Auditorium Theatre, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra on November 22 and 23 at the Saenger Theatre.
Each night, the performances will feature a completely unique set, showcasing hits from the expansive Grateful Dead catalog, Weir’s solo albums, and beloved covers. Original orchestration is provided by Stanford professor and composer Dr. Giancarlo Aquilanti.
In 2023, Weir released Ace: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, featuring a live performance with the Wolf Bros and The Wolfpack at Radio City Music Hall. His 2016 album Blue Mountain, which marked his first solo material in over a decade, received rave reviews from NPR Music among others.
Weir has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association and is also a Les Paul Spirit Award recipient.
Beyond his musical achievements, Weir is deeply committed to charitable work. Weir supports HeadCount, a non-partisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy. His efforts extend to supporting MusiCares, which provides critical assistance to people in the music industry in times of need. As a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Weir raises awareness and mobilizes support for the UN’s work to end poverty and fight climate change. Additionally, Weir is a co-founder of the Furthur Foundation, which funds environmental, social, and cultural causes through grants and partnerships.
