While Beethoven was known for the dance-like passages in his symphonies, especially the Symphony No. 7 which Wagner characterized as the apotheosis of the dance, Beethoven, himself, never learned to dance. But he did compose the music for the ballet, The Creatures of Prometheus op 43 (1801). The overture opens with a stately slow introduction which leads to an energetic, scamperingly swift outburst with dramatic accents.
