Matthew Barrett has been playing the oboe and studying with Phylis Secrist for the past 7 years. He has been a member of the KSYO for the past 2 years and the KSYO Chamber Music Program for 1 year. In addition, he has been performing with the Tennessee Wind Symphony for 2 years and has been a member of the Hardin Valley Academy Wind Ensemble for the past 4 years. Matthew has achieved ETSBOA All State placement all 4 years of high school, and recently auditioned for, and was placed 1st chair, in the George R. Boulden Honor Band Festival at the University of Kentucky. While he hasn’t made a final decision, in the fall Matthew will be studying oboe performance and plans to double major at either the University of Kentucky or the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys running, competing in local races, and hanging out with his friends.
