Thomas Consolo has experience in many facets of the orchestral world. As a violinist, the Greater Cincinnati native has performed with many of the region’s orchestras, including those in Columbus and Dayton, Ohio, and Charleston, W.Va. He has served as the KSO’s prinicpal second violinist from its first concert in 1992.
After a brief stint as a physics major at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tom returned to Cincinnati to earn a degree in violin performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. He went on to master’s and doctoral studies in orchestral conducting under Gerhard Samuel. He conducted both CCM orchestras regularly, including on the world premiere recording of Charles Ives’s Universe Symphony.
Tom has assisted and conducted in performance with the West Virginia Symphony. As the KSO’s associate conductor, he has led the orchestra in subscription, education, and summer park series performances. During his tenure as assistant conductor of the Ohio Valley Symphony, he stepped in on short notice to lead performances including a holiday program broadcast statewide on West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
Long involved in journalism, he was for more than seven years a copy editor, page designer, and eventually assistant business editor for The Cincinnati Post and Kentucky Post. He later held a similar role at the Cincinnati Enquirer. He now works as the editor for the communications team at a local Fortune 500 company.
Katie and Steve are happy to support the KSO, which provides enjoyment to so many in our Northern Kentucky community, and Tom, who has been part of this wonderful orchestra from the beginning. ■
