Matthew J. Geerlings was appointed as Director of Music for the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains, as well as the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, in July of 2020. Here at the Basilica he directs the eighteen voice profession Cathedral Choir for Sunday liturgies and other liturgical events. He directs the Cathedral’s concert series: Great Music in a Great Space, which works to bring the best choirs from around the globe to perform in the opulent acoustics of the Cathedral Basilica. He has performed organ concerts throughout the United States as well as Germany and the Netherlands.

Prior to this appointment in Cincinnati he served as Director of Music for the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, Iowa for 20 years. He holds degrees in music from the University of Memphis and the University of Kansas. He studied organ performance John David Peterson, James Higdon, and Michael Bauer, and choral conducting with Simon Carrington.
