MARY KATE EDWARDS*

Hometown: Mobile, Alabama

Mary Kate Edwards was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama where she began dancing at the age of three at C.C. Dance Studio & Company.

She later began her classical ballet training at the age of eleven at Mobile Ballet under the direction of Winthrop Corey. She attended summer courses at School of American Ballet, Carolina Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Miami City Ballet School. Following her second summer at the School of American Ballet in 2016, she was asked to stay and train year-round under scholarship in New York City. She trained there for three years under the instruction of Kay Mazzo, Suki Schorer, and Susan Pilarre among other teachers and performed principal roles in George Balanchine’s Western Symphony and Bourrée Fantasque in the annual workshop performances.

Mary Kate was then invited to continue her training on scholarship at the Miami City Ballet School in 2019 after attending her second summer there and has since been given many opportunities to perform with the company in productions of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®, Alexei Ratmansky’s Swan Lake, and MCB’s first production of George Balanchine’s/Jerome Robbins’ Firebird.

Mary Kate joined the corps de ballet in 2021 after two years at the school.
