The Studio Wednesday House Band is the official house band that formed in November 2021 at Silk City for a new monthly curated series called “Studio Wednesdays.” Under the leadership of saxophonist Hiruy Tirfe and composed of keyboardist Kayla
“Black Buttafly” Childs, bassist Jonathan L. Smith, and drummer Lionel Forrester Jr, Studio Wednesday has quickly become a top-demand band not just here in Philadelphia, but the entire North East Corridor. Recently they have been featured on NPR Live Sessions and locally on FOX29. As individuals, members of this band have worked with top artists in the industry, such as Jazmin Sullivan, Patti LaBelle, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, Res, The Roots, Samara Joy, Orion Sun, Keiya A, and numerous other artists. It is safe to say that individually they are in demand musicians, which makes the Studio Wednesday House Band a strong and mighty unit. Collectively the Studio Wednesday House Band has supported artists such as Chill Moody and MARE, and currently, they are working on their debut mixtape, which comprises all the freestyle material that they created at Silk City.
