Ngoma African Dance Company
Student Group

The Ngoma African Dance Ensemble is a company devoted to preserving the African Diaspora and folkloric art forms. Founded in 1995 by Markita Boney-Brooks, she wanted a place where students would come together, vibe, release stress, and workout! This season, we celebrate 31 YEARS, and Ngoma still carries on in this fashion. Under the Artistic Direction for 30 of those years is Babadunio Olagunké. This year's presentation is entitled, "Sankofa Part 1: Something Old, Something Borrowed, Something New!" African dance traditions, culture, rhythm, song, and dance continue to evolve in this technology-driven world. Tonight's presentation will bridge the tradition with the contemporary. Enjoy as we embrace the new and always giving homage to the old. This year as we celebrate 31 years, we purposefully focus on patience...and spirituality. We have experienced significant growth spiritually, physically, and metaphysically. We also reap the awesome benefits of appreciation and dedication. Suffice to say, we proudly share this piece for The Celebration of Dance Showcase. "Sankofa Part I: Something Old, Something Borrowed, Something New!" Enjoy family..Ase' Ohhhhh!!!!!
