Mixtape for the Summer of '63 is part of my Shame Remix series, where I write pieces inspired by musical guilty pleasures of the musicians I write for. For Andie Springer, someone with whom I'd collaborated a great deal, the prospect of choosing just one guilty pleasure wasn't enough, so we drew on our mutual love of corny 80s movies, specifically the 1987 film Dirty Dancing, a film that exemplifies the glossy nostalgia of the 1980s. This work is an even glossier and more nostalgic look at the romanticization in the film, especially in regards to its use of period music.
