This work is inspired by the orange dragoness sculpture presented to me by Tanja Bechtler. Being as One is divided into two sections and the harmonic language is derived from the cello’s open strings, their harmonic series, and an emphasis on intervals of 5ths and 4ths as a metaphor for stability and instability. As we, the human species, continue to struggle to coexist with nature, I hope Being as One can be an inspiration to reflect inward into our subconscious to re-discover our deep connection with the natural world.
