Indonesian (gamelan) Ensemble (MUS 229, MSEN 203:03, Gamelan Raga Kusuma)

Sumyar (MSEN 203-03, Gamelan Raga Kusuma). Created during the Japanese occupation of Indonesia (1942-1945) by K.R.M.T. Wreksadiningrat to accompany a fusion of folk and palace dance. “Sumyar” in Javanese means “bright, shining and happy.”

 

Ayo Ngguyu(MSEN 203-03, Gamelan Raga Kusuma). Traditional composition. “Ayo Ngguyu” means “let’s laugh” in Javanese. It is a popular children’s song, in the “Lancaran” style, using the pelog pathet nem scale.

 

Kupu Kuwi(MUS 229, Gamelan Raga Kusuma). Traditional composition. “Kupu Kuwi” means “butterfly” in Javanese. It is a popular children’s song in the “Lancaran” style, using the pelog pathet nem scale.

 

Sri Widodo(Gamelan Raga Kusuma). Composed during the reign of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono VIII. Ladrang Sri Widada was composed by Wiryadiningrat, known for creating instrumental pieces with unique characteristics. “Sri Widodo” refers to a Javanese prayer for prosperity and safety.
