Kassa DibonA traditional rhythm of the Malinke of Sangbarala Village. Dibon is a rhythm that comes from a family of rhythms called Kassa (Harvest), derived from the song of a bird couple that comes together during the day and parts ways at sunset. All Kassa rhythms are played by drummers accompanying the work in the field. The young women also support the men’s working by clapping, singing, and cheering them on. Dibon is played upon the completion of agricultural work for the day and gearing up to return home.

GarangadonA traditional rhythm of the Bambara from the Kayes region of Mali. Garangedon is both a rhythm and danceIt is a dance of the shoemaker, played to honor their caste and craftsmanship of working with leather.

Saa. A traditional rhythm of the Malinke of Norasuba Guinea. Saa is the music of the Camara Blacksmith’s totem. This particular totem was a snake, who lived beneath the blacksmith’s furnace. This rhythm would call for Saa (snake) to present itself when the Camara blacksmith needed protection or power. The blacksmiths were revered as sorcerers because they were able to yield fire and create the unimaginable.
