2023 Metropolitan Symphony Concerto Competition Winner Lane Wendorf, 15, is a Freshman at Oconomowoc High School. Lane is the only concerto competition winner on tuba at MYSO in recent memory! He has been a member of MYSO since seventh grade, playing with the Wind Ensemble and Philharmonia. He has also participated in the 2021 and 2022 WSMA middle-level honors band, sitting principal tuba both years. He studies with and is mentored by tubists Matthew Nelson and Andrew Hacker, and has had the opportunity to meet and learn from tubist Marty Erickson. Lane plays the tuba in the Wind Symphony at Oconomowoc High School and plays the bass trombone in Jazz Band.
Lane is an Honor-Roll student, a member of Tri-M, and a goalie on the Oconomowoc Varsity Lacrosse Team. Lane would like to thank his parents, Troy and Sarah Wendorf, brother Grady, and his grandparents for their dedication to his music and continuous encouragement. Also, a special thank you to Ms. Susan Ohm, who encompasses teaching music, not just the notes.
