Gregory Gumina

Mr. Gregory L. Gumina earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from West Virginia University, studying percussion, music theory, and business administration. He also earned the Master of Arts in Music Education degree from the University of Alabama. While at UA, he served as a graduate assistant in the University Bands Department and was the Arranger/Instructor for the percussion section of the Million Dollar Band. He also studied Wind Literature and Conducting with Professor Gerald Welker. Mr. Gumina is currently serving his 31st year as a professional music educator with 24 of those years spent as Assistant Band Director at Shades Valley High School. Greg currently serves the Jefferson County School District as the Instrumental Music and Theater Supervisor. His ensembles have performed at the 2001 NASPAAM International Convention, the 2006 Alabama Music Educators Association In-Service Conference, the 2011 Music for All Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival, the 2013 Southeastern United States Band Festival, the 2013 Alabama Music Educators In-Service Conference, and more than 10 Percussive Arts Society Days of Percussion. Mr. Gumina performed with the Star of Indiana Drum & Bugle Corps in 1988 and is the former Director and Program Coordinator of Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps, having worked with the organization for 11 years. Mr. Gumina has served on the Arts Advisory Board and the Curriculum Writing Committee for the Jefferson County School System, and in 2010 Mr. Gumina achieved National Board Certification. Mr. Gumina is a Past-President of the Alabama Music Educators Association and was inducted into Phi Beta Mu, International Bandmasters Fraternity in 2019. Mr. Gumina is a member of AMEA, ABA, NAfME, PAS, and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. Greg resides in Trussville with his wife Gina and their daughter Giada, and is an avid model railroader in his spare time.
