Tiantian Lan is the Principal Viola of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Oakland Symphony, and Berkeley Symphony, and Assistant Principal Viola of the Las Vegas Philharmonic.
Born in Beijing, China, Tiantian began studying the violin at four and the viola at nine. He received his B.M. degree from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he studied under Wing Ho. Lan then earned an M.M. degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2009, studying with Jodi Levitz. He was the former Principal Viola of The Phoenix Symphony and has performed with orchestras around the world, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Florida Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Boise Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, China National Orchestra, Shanghai Opera Orchestra, Santa Rosa Symphony, Reno Philharmonic, Reno Chamber Orchestra, Sacramento Philharmonic, Fresno Philharmonic and at music festivals including Tanglewood Music Festival and Lancaster Music Festival in Ohio.
Mr. Lan’s other teachers included Heidi Castleman, Jay Liu, and Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio.
Tiantian lives in Vestavia Hills now, with his wife, Hui Lim, and their cats Snowbear & Almond.
