Sophia Hunt
soprano (Philadelphia, PA)

Brazilian-American soprano Sophia Hunt's performances have been praised as "trenchant” and “vocally skilled" (Opera News), "exceptionally strong both vocally and dramatically" (Parterre Box), and "vibrant and musically intelligent" (Broad Street Review). Sophia is pursuing her master’s degree at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she holds the Rubenstein Fellowship and works with Carol Vaness. She is a national semifinalist in the 2022 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.

 

This season, Sophia sings Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, as well as Mrs. Gobineau in a film of The Medium, with the Curtis Opera Theatre. She makes her Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia debut, singing Beethoven’s concert aria “Ah! perfido,” and sings several recitals. This summer, she sings Susannah (Mrs. Gleaton) and covers La traviata (Violetta) with Wolf Trap Opera.

Sophia’s other recent performances include La clemenza di Tito (Vitellia), Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira), Rene Orth’s Empty the House (Faith), A Little Night Music (Mrs. Anderssen) and Trouble in Tahiti (1st Trio Member), as well as singing as Contessa Almaviva in an excerpt of Le nozze di Figaro with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Sophia is passionate about concert and recital work, and recently made her Opera Philadelphia debut, singing in the Curtis in Concert recital series as part of Festival O19. She also sang with Curtis on Tour in Greece, the Main Line Symphony Orchestra, and the Art Song Preservation Society of New York. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and currently lives in Philadelphia.
