PHILIP McCOWN
tenor

Philip, tenor, is an Alabama and Atlanta based singer and choral conductor. He holds an undergraduate degree from Auburn University where he studied with Dr. Matthew Hoch, and a masters degree from Indiana University, where he studied with Peter Volpe. Philip is currently pursuing his DMA at The University of Alabama, studying Voice with Dr. David Tayloe and Choral Conducting with Dr. Morgan Luttig. 

Philip has has performed a vast span of repertoire. His most notable roels are: Nermorino (L'elisir D'amore), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ralph Rachstraw (HMS Pinafore), Bardolph (Falstaff), Laurie (Little Women), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), and Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas). He has performed at The Atlanta Opera, Opera Birmingham, Opera Huntsville, Druid City Opera, Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater, and The University of Alabama Opera Theatre. In addition to opera, Philip  enjoys singing concert works and has been featured as a Soloist in Franz Joseph Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Handel’s Messiah, and Charles Wood’s Saint Mark Passion

Philip is equally at home on the podium as well as the stage. He has served at Assistant Conductor for the Auburn University Men’s Chorus and Director of the Schola Cantorum at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn, AL. He has prepared choruses for operas and master works such as: Handel's Messiah, Viviald's Gloria, Rutter's Gloria, Verdi's Requiem, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Rigoletto. Philip currently serves as Assistant Conductor for the University Chorus at Alabama, and is the Chorus Master for Druid City Opera in Tuscaloosa, AL.
