Kev Choice is a pianist, M.C., producer, composer, educator, and activist, from Oakland, CA. He holds a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Kev has worked with artists such as Lauryn Hill, Goapele, The Coup, Zion I, Too Short and more. In 2010 he started his band, Kev Choice Ensemble, combining elements of Hip-Hop, Jazz, Soul, R&B, and Classical to create his unique sound. He has produced 5 solo albums and various collaborative projects over the years including Oakland Riviera, Love & Revolution, 88 Steps to Eternity, and Social Distancing. In 2018 he was commissioned to compose a work for the Oakland Symphony which resulted in a 5 movement piece, Soul Restoration Suite. In 2020, he collaborated with the San Francisco Symphony on a piece he wrote and composed entitled “Movements”. Kev Choice is co-chair of the Instrumental Music Department at Oakland School For The Arts, serves on Oakland’s Cultural Affairs Commission as Vice-Chair, is a Cultural Strategist in Government with City of Oakland Citywide Communications Department, is on the board of governors for The Recording Academy’s SF Chapter, and was recently appointed to the Board of Oakland Symphony
