Ethan Murphy
Cello

Seventeen-year-old Ethan Murphy started cello lessons at age 5 and has studied under Ms. Susan Moses. Ethan has garnered a number of prizes including Third Prize in the 2017 David Popper International Cello Competition in Hungary, First Prizes in the 2022 Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra Young Artist Competition, 2021 “Rome” Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, 2020 International Grande Music Competition, 2020 Louisville Orchestra Young Artist Competition, 2019 Muncie Symphony Orchestra Junior Division Concerto Competition, and 2018 New World Symphony Junior Division Competition, Second Prizes in the 2020 Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra Young Artist Competition and the 2016 Music Teachers National Association Indiana State Competition, and he was a semi-finalist in the 2020 Sphinx Competition. Ethan has performed as a concerto soloist with the Louisville Orchestra, Muncie Symphony Orchestra, New World Youth Orchestra, and the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. He is principal cello in the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra and performed with the IYO in Carnegie Hall in 2022, and he has performed in a variety of chamber ensembles that include a string quartet and piano quartet, as well as the Indiana University String Academy Chamber Orchestra. In his free time, Ethan enjoys chess and martial arts.
