Phillip Hammond currently studies with Simin Ganatra at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University. He is a freshman and a recipient of the Herbert Presidential Scholarship and the Indiana Young Talent Scholarship. In 2020 he was awarded the From the Top Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award.
He previously studied violin with Mimi Zweig and Brenda Brenner and chamber music with Susan Moses at the String Academy of the Jacobs School. Phillip has performed as a soloist with the Indianapolis Symphony, New World Youth Symphony and Bloomington Symphony. Concertmaster for a special Side-by Side performance with the Indianapolis Symphony. At Indiana University Phillip was concertmaster of the Summer String Academy Chamber Orchestra.
He toured Argentina and Chile as a member of the acclaimed Violin Virtuosi. He was the recipient in 2020 of From the Top’s Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award.
Phillip enjoys playing soccer and chess, studying history and playing the piano.
