Maestro Chen, conductor of the Longmont Youth Symphony and concertmaster of the Boulder Symphony Orchestra, has taught violin since 1994. A noted music educator, Mr. Chen has served as the artistic director and music director of the Boulder Youth Symphony; conductor of the Colorado Youth Symphony’s Philharmonia Orchestra; and is executive director of A Midsummer Day’s Dream String Camp.
Mr. Chen began studying violin at age 4, entering the Chongqing School of the Arts at age 11, then the prestigious Shanghai Music Conservatory when he was 13. In 1995, he moved his violin study to CU
Boulder, where he earned his Masters Degree in Music Performance.
He has received numerous prestigious awards, which include the Denes Koromzay Chamber Music Award, the CU College of Music’s Concerto Competition, and both the State and Regional Music Teachers’ National Association Music Competition. Mr. Chen, along with Regan Kane, founded the rigorous Flatirons Strings Academy in 2006.
