Michael Sweeney was commissioned to write Black Forest Overture in 2000 for the Kennedy Middle School Band under the direction of David Kliss. The overture incorporates a variety of styles from majestic to mysterious while challenging the ensemble with an array of articulations, dynamics, tempo changes, and meter changes.
