The Annapolis Valley Honour Choir (AVHC) has been a mainstay in the Annapolis Valley’s cultural fabric for over 30 years. Known for its excellence in education and capacity for community building, their choral education is focused on nurturing healthy vocal development, musicianship skills, and engaged community leaders. Pre-pandemic, there were 175 singers in three choirs from Grades 3-12 in the AVHC program that includes a full music literacy curriculum, a chorister apprenticeship and leadership program, multiple performances, community engagement, and cultural exchange travel opportunities.
Citizenship, strong community values, volunteerism, and a global education are an integral part of the organization’s mandate. The choir provides a powerful means for young musicians to strengthen their inner voice as well as their physical one, to build confidence, and to express their authentic selves. Choir members share a collective sense of responsibility, and a common vision and work ethic.
