It is difficult to fathom that 30 years have passed since I was sitting at my drawing board in my Toronto studio creating first designs for the Halifax Nutcracker in the sweltering July heat. I will never forget my neighbor in the next studio politely knocking on my door and looking somewhat irritated asking me what was up with the loud Christmas music being played for weeks in the middle of summer! Many productions have been designed in the years since the thrilling first opening night here at the Cohn. Theatre, film, and many television productions... but nothing quite as special as my Nutcracker design. It has stood well the test of time, with hundreds of people involved over the years, enthralling thousands in audiences young and old alike, getting everyone into the Christmas spirit! I now reside in my beautiful home town of Antigonish where I continue to try and share my gifts in a variety of public venues for all to share and hopefully enjoy. As theatrical designers, our work is inevitably destroyed. It has been wonderful to see my current work “stay around” for a while. I am proud to say the same can be said of our Nutcracker! Thank you to all and enjoy!
