Halifax Dance’s Young Company (YoCo) has been creating exceptional pre-professional contemporary dance since 1988 and is a vital first step into the world of professional dance for serious young dancers. It was founded to give gifted young artists the opportunity to complement their technical training with valuable performance experience. The company offers the tremendous opportunity of dancing in works created with and for them by some of the best choreographers in the country. Since its inception, the company has created two original full-length dance theatre works, produced 27 seasons of mixed repertoire, and originated the dance component of Symphony Nova Scotia’s The Nutcracker. Alumni from The Young Company are committed to performing, creating, teaching, and shaping the future of our art form in Halifax and beyond. Many of our former members have danced in such notable companies as Parsons Dance Company (New York), CORPUS (Toronto), Mocean Dance (Halifax), Verve Mwendo (Halifax), O Vertigo (Montreal), SINS (Halifax), and have become respected performers and choreographers.
