Commissioned in 2016 by Symphony Nova Scotia and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Yatra was composed as a short ‘Sesquicentennial Fanfare’ or ‘Sesqui’ for the 150th anniversary of the confederation of Canada. The piece offers a contemporary perspective of a vibrant, bustling Canada. The music celebrates the energy of diverse communities, and its eventual fading suggests that this diversity is a perpetual force, always in motion and destined to carry forward into the future.
