Composed: 1731
Premiered: 1732, Italy
Duration: 5 minutes
Composed in 1731 and first performed for the inauguration of Verona’s Teatro Filarmonico, La fida ninfa (The Faithful Nymph) is one of about 20 operas Vivaldi wrote that have survived to this day (though the composer claims he wrote 94 operas, but less than 50 have actually been identified). The opera’s premiere in 1732 was followed up by a return to the stage in 1737, but it’s unknown whether it saw any further revivals until the 20th century.
