Alfredo Hurtado is a founding member of Black Box Dance Theatre. He began his career as a soccer player, musician, and paratrooper before finding his true passion for dance. Alfredo often says, “Dance saved my life.” He is a Purple Heart Combat Wounded Warrior who served three tours with the 118th Military Police Company/82nd Airborne Division of the US Army during the Global War on Terrorism. The physical and intellectual demands of dance, paired with the camaraderie and creative energy of disciplined artists, are a perfect match for Alfredo. As a teaching artist leading workshops and residencies for K-12 students since 2013, Alfredo has inspired and ignited the most unlikely dancer to participate and be MOVED.
