Makiya Green

Makiya Green (she/her) is from Cheyenne, WY, and currently attends the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where she is pursuing a double major in Modern Dance Performance and Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies. Makiya has trained in mostly modern and ballet dance styles but has also practiced traditional West African dance, contemporary, and jazz. She has trained and performed under choreographers such as Cleo Parker Robinson, Chung Fu Chang, Lawrence Jackson, Marsha Knight, Natalie Desch, Moscow Ballet, and various Limón company dancers. She has also performed original works by Donald McKayle, Natosha Washington, Cleo Parker Robinson, and Rena Butler. She has danced in intensives that include ACDA, The American Dance Festival, Snowy Range Dance Festival, and CPR Summer Dance Institute. While in high school, Makiya was a member of Ballet Wyoming and then Reformation Dance Company and has performed in the works Cinderella, Nutcracker, Alice in Wonderland, Four Seasons, and many more. She has also been in various screendance projects and music videos while in Utah. In the past, Makiya has been a featured performer in various venues and events ranging from opening art museum exhibits to site specific works performed in the community. In 2023, Makiya was selected to perform in Joanna Kotze’s award-winning performance Big Beats in Salt Lake City and is currently a guest artist with the company Cat+Fish Dance Co directed by Cat Kamrath and Daniel Do.
