Chung-An Chang, an award-winning and prolific choreographer, established Resident Island Dance Theatre in 2010. Chang started to lose sight in his right eye during his dance training in high school. As the condition worsened, he decided not to pursue further education at the university. He returned to his hometown Pingtung, south of Taiwan, a place with limited art opportunities and resources. He began teaching dance classes and creating works for his students to perform. Inclusivity, mental health, and social impact are central to Chang-An’s inspirations and aesthetics.
