Andrew Stanton is a two-time Academy Award®-winning director, screenwriter, and longtime creative leader at Pixar Animation Studios, where he joined in 1990 as the second animator and ninth employee. Currently serving as Vice President, Creative, Stanton oversees all short and feature film projects at the studio, playing a central role in shaping Pixar’s storytelling legacy.
Stanton made his feature directorial debut with Finding Nemo (2003), an original story he conceived and co-wrote. The film became a critical and commercial sensation, earning Stanton two Academy Award® nominations—for Best Original Screenplay and Best Animated Feature—winning the Oscar® for Best Animated Feature. It was Pixar’s first feature to earn that distinction. Finding Nemo continues to resonate with audiences worldwide, thanks to its heartfelt story, unforgettable characters, and emotional depth. Stanton later returned to the story with Finding Dory (2016), directing the sequel that went on to become the highest-grossing animated film domestically at the time of its release.
Stanton’s other acclaimed directorial work includes WALL·E (2008), which won the Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature and earned him an Oscar® nomination for Best Original Screenplay. He also served as screenwriter and executive producer of Toy Story 4 and was a key creative force behind every Pixar film from Toy Story onward, contributing as a screenwriter, co-director, or executive producer on films such as A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Brave, Ratatouille, and Monsters University. Expanding into live action, Stanton made his debut with Disney’s John Carter (2012), showcasing his versatility as a filmmaker.
