Serge Merlaud is a guitarist whose music reflects various musical universes. His first training was the parallel study of jazz guitar with Jean-Marie Pallen and classical guitar with Marie Solies at the Conservatoire du 11ème arrondissement in Paris.  Although he worked mainly as a jazz guitarist, he also practiced the classical guitar, notably by recording in 1998 the album "transcriptions" in which he plays the music of JS Bach arranged for 4 guitars by Frédéric Sylvestre (ALPHEE).

A jazz musician living in Paris, Serge Merlaud's career includes a good number of collaborations, particularly with musicians such as: Sylvan Beuf, Nguyen Lê, Edouard Ferlet, Alain Jean-Marie, Olivier Hutman, Michel Perez, Gilles Natural Jean-Marc Jaffet, and many more.
Serge Merlaud has also accompanied many singers such as: Marc Thomas, Sara Lazarus, Isabelle Carpentier, Roger Letson, Laura Littardi and Tierney Sutton.

His compositions have been recorded by Roger Letson, Yves Nahon, Jean-Pierre Rebillard, Pascal Gaubert and Tierney Sutton. During the winter of 2012 Merlaud recorded the album “Paris Sessions” with singer Tierney Sutton and bassist Kevin Axt. The CD is an intimate collection of classic jazz ballads, bossa novas of personal compositions and received a Grammy nomination for “Best Vocal Jazz Album.” Two songs from this project were also included on the 2013 nominated album at Tierney Sutton's Grammy Awards “After Blue” which also features Peter Erskine, Hubert Laws, Al Jarreau and Larry Goldings.
