LEAVES FLYING IN AUTUMN (杨花九月飞) (2000)
Wu Man
(b. Hangzhou, Zhejiang, January 2, 1963)
Composed 2000; 3 minutes
This is a sometimes whimsical, miniature tone poem appearing to describe the good and bad things that can happen to leaves once they leave the safety of the branch that holds them. Wu Man describes the piece as “an improvisational collage with inspiration from the classical martial style of pipa and a nod to rock n’ roll.”
