Christian Tetzlaff has been one of the most sought-after violinists in the classical music scene for many years. Known for presenting old familiar works in a new light, his concerts become an existential experience for the interpreter and audience alike. He frequently turns his attention to forgotten masterpieces and commits himself to substantial new works. He has an unusually extensive repertoire and performs approximately 100 concerts every year.
Mr. Tetzlaff regularly appears with the orchestras of Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Pittsburgh among many others in the US, as well as with the major European ensembles including the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics, London Symphony and London Philharmonic. He is also a guest at the world’s most prominent summer music festivals and has been Artist in Residence with such premier orchestras as Berlin Philharmonic, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic and Wigmore Hall. In 1994, Mr. Tetzlaff founded the Tetzlaff Quartet with his sister cellist Tanja Tetzlaff. He has toured the world with the Quartet, his trio and in solo recitals.
Christian Tetzlaff has received numerous awards for his many recordings, including the “Diapason d’or” in July 2018, the Midem Classical Award in 2017 and the “Preis Der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik” in 2015. The Quartet received a “Diapason d’or” in 2015 and one of the trio’s recordings was nominated for a Grammy award. Of special significance is his 2017 solo recording of Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas, praised as “an attentive and lively answer to the beauty of Bach’s solos” (Strad magazine).
Born in Hamburg in 1966, Christian Tetzlaff now lives in Berlin with his wife, the photographer Giorgia Bertazzi, and their three children.
