As a founding member of the Israeli Chamber Project, violist Guy Ben-Ziony has collaborated with many of Israel’s most celebrated composers and explored innovative cross-disciplinary projects in Germany, among them with the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests. He is a frequent guest leader with many of Europe’s leading chamber orchestras, and his debut solo CD, Monodialogue, was released to great critical acclaim.
He has taken part in international music festivals, playing alongside artists such as Gidon Kremer, Lisa Batiashvili, Christian Tetzlaff and Menachem Pressler. He was also a member of the Zapolsky String Quartet and the Waldstein Ensemble Wien. From 2006-2017, Guy was a viola professor at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig. In 2017-2018, he was a member of the renowned Pacifica String Quartet and Visiting Professor at the Jacobs School of Music.
Mr. Ben-Ziony grew up in Israel’s scenic Jezreel Valley. After seeing The Waltz King, the Walt Disney film about Johann Strauss, he wanted nothing more than to play the violin, but soon switched to the viola, finding his true voice, and studied with some of Israel’s leading teachers, including Chaim Taub, Gad Lewertoff and David Chen.
