Double bassist Jeremy McCoy enjoys a busy career as both performer and educator. He was Assistant Principal double bass of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for thirty-five seasons.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Mr. McCoy began his professional career at age twenty as a member of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra. He has performed as recitalist for the International Society of Bassists, CBC Radio, and at Lincoln Center, and as concerto soloist at the National Arts Centre, with the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Atlantic Chamber Orchestra and the Classical Tahoe Orchestra. Summer festival appearances include Marlboro, Banff, Mostly Mozart, and Rockport.
A founding member of Sequitur and Ensemble Sospeso, and frequent collaborator with Speculum Musicae, Mr. McCoy has premiered and recorded the chamber works of many modern masters. He has been section leader on dozens of film soundtracks and recorded with many popular artists. His own recordings, Dialogues with Double Bass, an eclectic program of duos, and Baroque Legacy, a collection of transcriptions for double bass, are available on Bridge Records and MSR Classics, respectively. He serves on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music, Bard College Conservatory of Music, Montclair State University and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
