Richard W. Robbins serves as director of the Richmond Symphony Chorus. A versatile conductor, Robbins has led choirs praised by the press as "moving" (Houston Chronicle) and "powerful" (Duluth News Tribune). His performances have been featured on numerous televised and nationally syndicated radio programs, including American Public Media's "Pipedreams."  

Robbins has extensive experience in preparing choral-orchestral performances, including serving as chorus master for the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and the Houston Ballet, and as assistant director with the Houston Symphony Chorus. He has prepared choruses for renowned conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Ermanno Florio, Hans Graf, and many others. His choral collaborations span various groups, including the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, ARENA DANCES, Lyric Opera of the North, and more.

Robbins travels extensively as a clinician, adjudicator, and director for choral festivals and honor choirs across the country, with recent engagements in Miami, Los Angeles, Orlando, San Francisco, Chicago, Baltimore, Washington D.C., and New York City. He has conducted and lectured internationally at Warsaw's Chopin Conservatory of Music, the John Paul II Liturgical Institute, the Fayha National Choir of Lebanon, and Krakow's Academy of Music.

Currently, Robbins is choral artist-in-residence and director of choral activities at Shenandoah Conservatory, where he directs the award-winning Conservatory Choir and teaches undergraduate and graduate-level conducting courses. His ensembles have performed at choral conferences and won numerous festival accolades. Robbins continues to contribute to the field of choral music through his published scholarship and by mentoring emerging conductors and choral directors.
