Mezzo-Soprano Leah Heater recently completed the Resident Artist Program with Pittsburgh Opera, performing roles such as Flora in La Traviata and The Page in Salome, where she impressed with her “solid low register” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). Notable roles include the title role in Riccardo Primo, Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, and Jessie Castner in The Long Walk. Her portrayal of Cecelia in Little Women was praised for lifting “a secondary character into considerable prominence” (Pittsburgh in the Round).
Ms. Heater has also been featured in Verdi’s Requiem with Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, earning acclaim for her “sonorous yet vigorous phrasing” (Chautauquan Daily), and as Gertrude in Opera Ithaca's Hamlet, where her “passion, carnality, and splendid voice” vividly captured her character’s complexity (Ithaca.com).
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Leah performed extensively, including Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Verdi’s Requiem, and roles such as Carmen in La tragèdie de Carmen and Eboli in Don Carlos. Her Carnegie Hall debut in Duruflé’s Requiem drew praise for her “exquisite voice” (New York Concert Review).
Leah has worked on new operas, including Ricky Ian Gordon’s Morning Star and Jake Heggie’s Great Scott, collaborating with celebrated creators. Her repertoire spans performances with Cincinnati Opera, Virginia Opera, and Sarasota Opera, where she brought depth to both classic and contemporary works, solidifying her reputation as a versatile and compelling artist.
