DR. MARISA YOUNGS
Composer

Dr. Marisa Youngs is a performer, educator, and researcher bringing a fresh artistic vision to the world of brass performance. Dr. Youngs has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor, as well as with orchestras, wind bands, and jazz bands. She composes and arranges works for trumpet and piano, brass quintet, trumpet ensemble, and other instruments.

As a trumpet artist, Dr. Youngs has worked with renowned conductors including Marin Alsop, Leonard Slatkin, and H. Robert Reynolds, and has appeared in historic venues such as Boston’s Symphony Hall, Pittsburgh’s Heinz Hall, Tanglewood’s Ozawa Hall, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. She has performed with numerous professional ensembles, including the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, the Kentucky Bach Choir, the Boston Chamber Symphony, the New England Philharmonic, and the New England Brass Band.

Dr. Youngs won the 2017 Academy Top Prize in the Australasian Trumpet Academy competition in Queensland, Australia, and also won Third Prize in the Orchestral Excerpts Competition. In 2018, Dr. she was a featured soloist in the "New Works" Recital at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in San Antonio, Texas, where she performed Michael Cotten's Song Cycle for Unaccompanied Trumpet. In recent years, she has won various solo competitions, including featured performances of Haydn’s Concerto in E-flat with the Virginia Blue Ridge Music Festival Orchestra and Alexander Arutiunian’s Concerto for Trumpet with the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Wind Ensemble.         

Dr. Youngs recently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance at the University of Kentucky and was the first graduate student to complete the United Kingdom’s new Certificate in Baroque Trumpet Performance. She.is currently Adjunct Professor of Trumpet and Music Theory at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and serves as the New Works Coordinator for the International Trumpet Guild.
