Program Note
Emma Shields

I am very excited to share my program with the audience and express myself through all the pieces. “Romanze II” is a romantic piece and is part of Schumann’s 3 Romances which I played No. I and No. III for my jury previously. The next set of pieces were inspired by my lovely oboe professor, Stephen Key, and I am very excited to share. The four pieces are from a series of thirteen songs to poetry, composed by Lili Boulanger exploring the themes of love, loss, and the passage of time. The final two songs on my program are songs that I studied and taught this semester in my choral education class taught by the wonderful Hillary Ridgley. I will be playing this piece with my colleague and best friend, Jesse Eagle, as well as my best friend Luke Demers.
