Gabriel Grovlez was a French composer, pianist, music critic, and opera conductor. He wrote this piece in 1930 commissioned by the Paris Conservatoire for its yearly exam. Sicilienne et Allegro Giocoso can be separated into two sections. The Sicilienne in C minor, which is slow and lyrical, and the Allegro Giocoso in C major, which is fast and playful. Giocoso can also mean to play jokingly or humorous.
