John Tavener
Funeral Ikos

British composer John Tavener was one of the most influential sacred composers of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Known for his deeply spiritual music, Tavener drew significant inspiration from the traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Church, to which he converted in 1977. His works often feature luminous harmonies, chant-like melodies and contemplative pacing. Tavener gained international recognition with pieces such as The Lamb, Song for Athene and Funeral Ikos. His music seeks to create a sense of timelessness and spiritual reflection.
