American composer Julia Wolfe is a co-founder of the influential new music collective Bang on a Can. Her music blends classical traditions with elements of rock, folk and minimalism, often exploring themes of language, labor and collective human experience. Wolfe received the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Music for her oratorio Anthracite Fields. Her choral works frequently feature driving rhythms, layered textures and striking text settings.
