Detective is a “false talkie/pseudo-silent” film (very little dialogue), under the genre of a psychological thriller. This is a black-and-white mood piece told mainly through instrumentation. The story follows the unnamed protagonist, “The Detective,” who called a hit on his father. It opens with him walking into the woods uncovering the dead corpse, or so we think. The detective then begins to lose his mind, experiencing various night terrors/hallucinations. Eventually, not knowing what else to do, he contacts his mother and begins to vent and confess, only to find out the entire event was fake. The detective, having suffered the horrors of unjust murder, forms of PTSD, insomnia and more, begins to enter an indescribable state of tension. Then going to the only place he feels safe, his childhood home, nearing the end of the film in a confused state of distress, he looks for the light. He learns to be grateful to have seen both outcomes of his choice, and is now ready to face his internal demons with his wife at his side.
This production contains the use of weapons and disturbing imagery (violence).
