Settle serves as a sort of introductory primer to the music of Sarah Hennies, much of which explores minimal amounts of sonority over extreme lengths of time. Many of these works (of which Settle is an example) allow a listener to hear the passage of time in a piece quite differently than in familiar Western Music. In this shorter work, she allows a single harmony to wash over the performance space, altering it only very slightly over time. The effect is not as if you were hearing music starting at point A and going to Point B, but rather, that you are immersed inside it as if in a forest, aurally wandering through the trees and landscape.
