Alexa Boyles (she/they) is a native Virginian dance artist. She attended Valley Dance Theatre from 2004 to 2019 where she trained in various styles including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop and acrobatics. Throughout middle and high school she traveled to various national dance conventions with the Valley Dance Theatre Performance Company, including DanceMakers, JUMP, NYCDA and NUVO. In 2019, Alexa was invited to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Contemporary Intensive, where she trained under artists such as Brenda Daniels, Ashley Lindsey, Gregory Dolbashian, Dante Puleio and more.

In August of 2019, Alexa began her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance & Choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where she trained under professors Scott Putman, Eric Rivera, Autumn Proctor-Waddell, MK Abadoo, Dr. Gaynell Sherodd and more. In addition, Alexa had the opportunity to work closely with members of Urban Bush Women as they restaged their work Artist Journal.

In 2021, Alexa transferred to the conservatory at Shenandoah University (SU) to continue her Bachelor of Fine Arts Dance & Choreography degree, where she has trained under and performed in pieces by Erica Helm, Tiffanie Carson, Maurice Fraga, Shylo Martinez, Daniel Padierna, Dr. Ting-Yu Chen, Mary Robare and more. At SU, she has also had the opportunity to work with guest artists Natasha Davis, Danielle Sten-Guillermo and Ballet Hispánico with their restaging of Batucada Fantastica.

Alexa has continued her training by attending various intensives, including the American Dance Festival Winter Intensive, UNCSA Professional Studies Intensive, Ballet Hispánico's ChoreoLab and Bates Dance Festival.

She is fascinated by exploring her choreographic voice, and this past March, her solo choreography Dissonance was selected to be showcased at the ACDA Mid-Atlantic North Conference in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Alexa is excited to pursue all avenues of her dance career by exploring her performance capabilities and challenging her artistic voice!
