Carly Baron, soprano, is honored to be channeling the inspiring and acclaimed poet, activist and performer, Anne Waldman, in Shenandoah Conservatory’s production of Hydrogen Jukebox. Carly is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance (Voice), studying under Nancy Gustafson. She looks forward to sharing her doctoral research — a technical analysis and guide to the performance of opera for young audiences — next semester!
Last year, Carly sang the role of Héloïse in Monsieur Petitpois achète un château and covered Mademoiselle le Pouponne in La Fille d'opéra within Shenandoah’s production of The New World of Opera. She also produced and performed as Lexi in the U.S. premiere of the children’s opera, Back into the World; debuted the role of Erica in the premiere of Salted Crème, a new chamber opera; and performed Caroline Shaw’s DOLCE CANTAVI for the EDGE Ensemble’s Pulitzer Prize Composer Festival. Additional recent operatic credits include Countess Vampirella (Gothic Opera – devised work), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Despina (Così fan tutte), and Julie (Pacamambo - U.S. premiere).
Carly feels so grateful to have the opportunity to explore, embody and inhabit this ever-poignant collaborative work of art, and thanks the production team, as well as her fiancé, family, friends, mentors and cat for their unwavering support!
