Brian Fisher
Graduate Student Conductor

Brian Fisher, a music educator since 2002, became the band director at Herndon Middle School in 2018. Prior to this position, he taught at Wakefield High School and Kenmore Middle School in Arlington, Virginia; Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C.; and West Milford High School and Macopin Middle School in West Milford, New Jersey.

In 2007, Mr. Fisher completed his Master of Arts in Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. He studied philosophy with Dr. Randall Everrett Allsup and conducting with professor Dino Anagnost. In 2002, Fisher earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Education at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where he studied with Dr. Kenneth Laudermilch, Dr. John Villella, professor H. Lee Southhall and professor Gunnar Mossblad. He performed with the "Incomparable" Golden Rams Marching Band, Chamber Winds, Wind Ensemble and Criterion Jazz Ensemble.

As a saxophonist, he has performed with the Herndon Regional Wind Ensemble, Fairfax Wind Symphony, Arlington Concert Band and the Fairfax Swing Jazz Ensemble. He is inspired by Gerry Mulligan, Pepper Adams, Gary Smulyan, LeRoi Moore and Cannonball Adderley. At Herndon Middle School, Mr. Fisher directs all aspects of the wind and percussion instrumental program. He also directs the Herndon High School Thursday Jazz Ensemble. He enjoys motivating young musicians by sharing his passion for music with them every day. When not teaching, Fisher likes to spend time hiking and biking with his family, reading a good book and coaching third base for his son's little league baseball team.
